How do you choose a company for electronics and battery recycling?
Our office is clearing out a lot of old hardware and I am not sure how to pick a vendor for this. There are batteries, some IT equipment and a few drives with sensitive data. What should I check first before agreeing to anything?

I went through something similar last year and my main takeaway was that the scope of accepted materials matters more than the quoted price. Some vendors take only common electronics and then you are stuck arranging batteries separately, which usually means sorting by chemistry type anyway. If drives are involved, I would ask directly whether destruction happens on site or after transport, because that changes who carries the risk while the equipment is in transit. Certificates and documented compliance are worth asking about too, since without paperwork you have no proof anything was handled properly. When I compared options I found it useful to look at how clearly a provider lists its actual services, for example link covers batteries, electronic waste, data destruction, on site shredding and larger jobs like data center or UPS removal, so at least the scope was stated plainly. Specialised work such as X ray equipment removal is a separate question and not every company handles regulated parts. Overall I would compare two or three providers and pick the one that explains its process and documentation clearly rather than the cheapest one.
